Congratulations, Kathy Tully Schneider! I am grateful to be the recipient of a grant to support my mentorship of Kathy Tully Schneider of Cincinnati, OH who was accepted into the Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Program (TAAP) for 2018-2019. The Traditional Arts Apprenticeship program provides support for master artists to work with apprentices to build understanding and proficiency in folk and traditional art forms. By pairing exemplary practitioners of traditional art forms with dedicated apprentices, this program allows for concentrated study and cultural exchange. Traditional Arts Apprenticeship awards support the teaching and sharing of important cultural traditions and enrich the lives of people throughout the state.

Comhghairdeas, Michael Steen! I am delighted to be the recipient of a second grant to support my mentorship of Michael Steen of Portland, OR who was accepted into the Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Program (TAAP) for 2018-2019. I have been mentoring Michael in singing within the Irish tradition. Traditional arts express a community's heritage and living cultural practices. The Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Program(TAAP) recognizes the knowledge and skills of excellent folk and traditional artists. TAAP assists accomplished mentors to pass on their living traditions to promising apprentices of the same cultural heritage and community. A state-level honor of great prestige, TAAP awards are often a precursor for the most excellent traditional artists to become nominated for the National Endowment for the Arts National Heritage Fellowship award.
